Nakagin Capsule Tower
A testament to Metabolism on the edge of Ginza
Designed by Kisho Kurokawa and completed in 1972, the Nakagin Capsule Tower was the only surviving example of Metabolism architecture before its demolition in 2022. Its visionary modular design, featuring 140 detachable capsules, transcended time, yet it could not withstand half a century of the elements.

It closed after six years due to the pandemic, yet its vibrant spirit remains alive in the memories of those who savored cake at its vividly colored counter.

A terminal's transformation into a cherished department store
